This is where we set you up at home with a dialysis machine. It means you can manage your own care at home without having to make lots of trips to hospital. Many people find this more flexible and it helps them to feel in more control.
We will teach you how to manage your own dialysis.
You will need to learn how to set the machine up. It is a good idea for another family member or carer to learn this too.
We will train you how to do this when you come into one of our centres for your dialysis. It usually takes between 4 and 8 weeks to train. We want to make sure you are confident and know what to do. We will need to see you do things for yourself before we set up home dialysis.
Do not worry, we have a special team to support you at home. They are at the end of the phone 24/7 if you run into any problems. We will make sure you know how to fix any problems before you start home dialysis.
The Trust will provide you with the kit you need and come and install this at home for you. You will need to have adequate space at home for the dialysis machine and equipment.
We will arrange a home visit to make sure your home is suitable. The room will need to be clean and tidy with a water point and electricity. There will be some minor plumbing work which the trust will do.
We will arrange to deliver other stock you need whenever is best for you. This can be every two weeks or monthly.
You may also be eligible for help with electricity costs.
