Melanie Johnson – Executive Director of Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals
Melanie is a nurse who started working in the NHS in 1985. She trained at St Thomas’ Hospital in London. She worked in different nursing and management jobs in London and Leeds.
Melanie was then Director of Nursing at Newcastle Hospitals and NHS Lothian Health Board in Edinburgh.
In 2016, she became Director of Nursing for South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
She leads all nurses and Allied Health Professionals. She also helps guide work on patient experience, research and keeping people safe (safeguarding). She is especially interested in how nurses make a difference, making sure there is enough staff and leadership. She is the Chair of the Royal College of Nursing’s Professional Nursing Committee.
