What is a Foundation Trust?
Foundation Trusts (FT) are part of the NHS with some extra freedoms and opportunities. One of these is to include local people in what we do. They help us as members.
As a Foundation Trust we have members from the public, our patients, and our staff. From this group, we elect a Council of Governors. They work with our Board of Directors to shape plans and strategies. This means local people, patients, and staff can play a bigger role in how hospital services are run.
Every NHS Foundation Trust must be approved by NHS Improvement (formerly called Monitor), which oversees all Foundation Trusts. You can find our Terms of Authorisation and Constitution on the NHS Improvement website.
What will becoming a member mean?
