We have a chaplaincy service at STSFT. A chaplain is a person who gives emotional and spiritual support to people. This includes our patients and their family, friends and carers.
Our chaplains support everyone. You do not have to be religious or go to church to get support from our chaplains. They are here to listen and talk to you in confidence. This is something that helps lots of our patients and their families. It helps them cope with them or someone they love being ill or dying.
You can contact our chaplains directly or you can ask the ward staff to. You can also visit our hospital chapels. They offer a quiet space to pray or escape the hustle and bustle of the busy hospital. You will also find our babies’ memorial book in our chapels.
The team work across the hospital sites and visit patients too. They also hold regular services. Details of these are further down this page.
Sunderland Royal Hospital
The chapel is open until 10pm every day. It is on B Floor (main concourse) at Sunderland Hospital. The prayer room and office are nearby. There is also a washing point that you can use before prayer.
If you need to visit later than 10pm, you can talk to security.
South Tyneside District Hospital
The chapel is always open. It’s on the ground floor of Ingham Wing, near the restaurant.
St Benedict’s Hospice
