Pre-operative Risk Evaluation and Preparation (PREP clinics)

What are PREP clinics? 

You will come to a PREP clinic (or pre-op assessement) for a check-up before your planned surgery. It helps make sure you are well enough for your operation and understand what will happen.

At your appointment, we will:

• check your health and any medical conditions
• make sure you feel prepared for your surgery and your recovery
• talk with you about your needs, beliefs or worries
• plan any support you may need at home after your operation

We work with you and your carers so you can make informed choices about your care. Our aim is to keep you safe and help your surgery go as smoothly as possible.

Where can I find PREP?

South Tyneside

We are in Ingham Wing at South Tyneside District Hospital. We are on the 3rd floor. Use the main entrance and take the lift or stairs. Follow signs from there. 

Sunderland 

We are in the main Outpatient Department at Sunderland Royal Hospital. Use Entrance 5 at Chester Wing.
