Mr Balaji Purushotaman

Mr Purushothaman is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon.

A Trauma Surgeon treats people who are seriously injured in accidents or emergencies. An Orthopaedic Surgeon operates on bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. 

He specialises in the spince. His specialist interests of the spine include degenerative conditions, infections, fractures and cancer. 

Mr Purushothaman is also Associate Clinical Lecturer and Undergraduate Co-Lead at the Sunderland Orthopaedic Unit at Newcastle University. He is also an examiner at the Royal College of Surgeons, Chai of the OrthNorth Teaching and Education Association (ONTEA) and a member of the National ST3 Trauma and Orthopaedics Selection Design Group.
