We have a Board of Directors at STSFT. This is made up of executive directors and non-executive directors.
Executive directors are senior leaders that work for the Trust. Non-executive directors are senior leaders that don’t work for the Trust.
The Board is led by the Chief Executive and the Chair.
The Board’s job is to lead and make decisions. It sets the Trust’s overall direction and looks at how well things are running and performing. It also makes sure controls are in place so risks can be checked and managed.
Executive directors make sure policies are in place. They manage the day-to-day running of the Trust.
Non-executive directors have an independent view. They help check decisions to make sure they are fair and well-informed.
The NHS Code of Governance says there must be a clear split between the Chair and the Chief Executive. Both have job descriptions that explain their roles. The Chair leads the Board and makes sure the Trust follows the law. The Chief Executive runs the organisation and delivers its services. As the Accounting Officer, the Chief Executive also makes sure the Trust meets its legal duties and has proper systems in place.
