Mr Ajay Kotagiri

Mr Kotagiri is a Consultant Ophthalmologist.

An Ophthalmologist looks after eyes.  

He is also the Clinical Director of the Ophthalmology department and Clinical Lead for the Medical Retina Service. The retina is the thin, light‑sensitive layer at the back of the eye.

He helped develop and set up the Genetic Retinal Service at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. This is a special eye clinic that looks after people with genetic (inherited) diseases of the retina. He also helped set up a virtual service where people with macular (central vision) problems are checked and monitored without needing a full, in‑person  appointment every time.
