CPAU (Chest Pain Assessment Unit)

What is CPAU?

The Chest Pain Assessment Unit cares for people who come to hospital with chest pain or symptoms that might be linked to the heart.

The team assesses patients quickly to understand what is causing their symptoms and to make sure they receive the right care as soon as possible.

Staff carry out tests such as heart tracings and blood checks, and they explain each step in clear, simple language.

They answer questions, give reassurance, and make sure patients understand what their results mean and what will happen next. This may include treatment, further tests, or follow‑up care.
