We are a very research active Trust. Across STSFT we have studies and trials taking place in most of our clinical areas. Every year we support thousands of people to take part in research. We want as many patients as possible to have the chance to do this. Research is vital part of helping the NHS to keep getting better.
Our research team sets up and delivers all our research work. We also deliver a wide range of portfolio studies with funds from the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
Our main aims for research at STSFT are to.
- Put our patients and the public at the heart of what we do and include everyone.
- Create a culture of excellence in research.
- Engage and work with partners to attract more investment in research.
- Create an environment to support all staff to embrace research in day-to-day practice.

Flagship studies
STSFT is the lead site and sponsor for all research in the COLOSPEED collaboration. YOu may have heard or read about this in the news. The study is using artificial intelligence to help detect bowel cancer sooner and save lives.
You can watch a story about this on the BBC below.
We also lead several Chief Investigator commercial trials sponsored by a range of different pharmaceutical companies.
