Andrea Hetherington – Director of Corporate Affairs and Legal, Trust Secretary and Freedom to Speak Up Guardian
Andrea has worked in the NHS, and in South Tyneside and Sunderland, for nearly 40 years.
In 2019, she became Director of Corporate Affairs & Legal/Trust Secretary. Her job is to give advice and guidance to the Chief Executive, Board of Directors and Council of Governors about how the Trust should be run. She makes sure the Trust follows all laws and rules.
She also leads the Trust's Charity Team. This team helps the Trust by looking after charity money, organising fundraising events and managing donations that help improve care for patients and support staff wellbeing.
Andrea is also the Trust's Freedom to Speak Up Guardian. She is registered with the National Guardian's Office. In this role, she gives staff a safe, private, and independent way to share any worries or concerns.
