Support when someone dies

There is no right or wrong way to feel when someone you love dies. Grief is very individual. We react to death in different ways.

You might feel:

  • Numb or find it hard to believe what has happened
  • Relief that that your loved one is not suffering anymore
  • Sad, angry or guilty
  • Worried about the future

It’s important to give yourself time to take in what has happened. Especially in the first few days.

Give yourself time to talk about the person who has died. Let yourself feel the pain and the loneliness. It’s also important to make time for yourself.

If you need some support there are organisations that can help. You can find details about these on this page.
