The Trust has launched its first Changing Places room. This is at Sunderland Royal Hospital. We hope to open more of these across the Trust.

What is a Changing Places room?
This is a fully accessible space for people with extra needs and their carers. Our patients can use it, as can our visitors and our own staff.
It means people can get showered, changed or use the toilet safely and with dignity.
The room is on B Floor and is next to B28. This is on the same level as its Kayll Road entrance.
You will need a radar key to unlock it. Please ask at the main reception desk for this. You can also get one from the Macmillan Centre, which is on the same corridor.
What equipment does it have?
It features:
- a ceiling track hoist – you will need to bring their own hoist.
- a bed which you can adjust the height on.
- a wet room and shower.
- a toilet with a padded back rest and rails which can come down from the wall behind.
- a privacy screen, which you can pull out along the length of the bed or to shield the view of the toilet.
- a sink, which you can lower or raise to change the height.
- three emergency cords if you need to raise the alarm.
- a supply of wipes, gloves, paper roll and aprons.
- waste bins.
- hooks on the walls.
