Ken Bremner, MBE - Chief Executive
Ken started working in the NHS in 1982 as a finance trainee. He moved to Sunderland in 1988 and worked with the Sunderland Health Authority. Later, he worked at City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. There he was Director of Finance and Deputy Chief Executive. He became Chief Executive in February 2004.
In September 2016, Ken also became Chief Executive of South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust. He led one team for both Trusts. They joined together in April 2019 to become South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust.
In 2018, Ken got an MBE for his leadership in the NHS. He supports the armed forces and works to improve research, learning and new ideas in the NHS. In 2016, he helped start a School of Nursing at the University of Sunderland. In 2018, he helped the university become one of five new medical schools in England.
Ken is Chair of the Sunderland Partnership Board. He is also part of the Foundation of Light Audit Committee and the North East and North Cumbria Academic Health Science Network.
