NHS leaders are reminding people to only use A&E for life-threatening emergencies as upcoming industrial action is expected to impact NHS services. 

Families who have experienced the loss of a baby or child are being invited to gather together at a dusk vigil.

Locations across South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust have been glowing pink as a symbol of how people can give the biggest gift possible – the decision to save a life.

The industrial action will last four days. There will be a 48-hour walk-out by British Medical Association (BMA) member consultants from 7am on Tuesday 19 September until 7am on Thursday 21 September. There will also be a 72-hour walk-out by BMA member junior doctors from 7am on Wednesday 20 September until 7am on Saturday 23 September.

NHS leaders at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are appealing for help from the public as local hospitals prepare for co-ordinated industrial action from both junior doctors and consultants.
