South Tyneside spinal patients now have the benefit for the first time of a service on their doorstep. From this month (September), two consultant-led Outpatient clinics a month will be held at South Tyneside District Hospital for patients referred by their GP, or requiring follow-up after treatment, for a back problem or injury.

A new support group is being introduced for patients in South Tyneside with a stoma. The first of the three-monthly meetings will be held on Wednesday, September 25th, from 2pm to 4pm, at Cleadon Park Primary Care Centre in South Shields.

Dr Carina Dowson, who works as a registrar in the integrated care and emergency ambulatory care units at Sunderland Royal Hospital, was awarded a place among its 2019/20 group of talented scholars by the Healthcare Leadership Academy (HLA). She has now begun the intense, year-long programme.
