Healthcare leaders at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are introducing further measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Across South Tyneside District Hospital and Sunderland Royal Hospital, the Trust is now caring for the same number of patients as it was at the height of the pandemic in April with over 200 people currently in hospital with confirmed COVID-19.

Healthcare staff at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust’s Neonatal Unit are raising money for the Trust littlest patients by walking thousands of miles to Lapland (virtually). The Team, who care for babies born prematurely or needing special care, began their winter walk on World Prematurity Day on the 17th November 2020 and will finish on Christmas Eve.

Sunderland Royal Hospital has officially been crowned as one the most digitally advanced organisations in the whole NHS and the only hospital in the North of England to be awarded Level 7 status from the Healthcare Information Management and Systems Society (HIMSS).
