Bright colours filled the streets of Sunderland on Saturday as a wave of participants joined the “All Eyes on You Walk,” a fundraiser led by STS Charity in support of eye care in the region. Held on Saturday 11th October, the walk brought together 35 patients, NHS staff, Trust leaders and members of the public for a symbolic journey from Sunderland Eye Infirmary to the future site of the city's new Eye Hospital.

With just nine months to go until the region’s new Eye Hospital opens its doors in Sunderland, patients can now get the first glimpse of where they will be coming for their specialist eye treatment from next summer. All scaffolding has now been removed from the exterior of the building, revealing in full the striking architecture of the new Eye Hospital in Sunderland city centre. It marks a major milestone in the project’s progress.

Back in March, while the rest of us were thinking about Easter eggs or the first bluebells of spring, doctors, nurses and NHS managers were carefully analysing data and working out how to help more people stay well when the cold sets in again.
