The opening of a new midwifery-led birthing centre at South Tyneside District Hospital this summer is set to offer more choice on where to give birth for local women across South Tyneside and Sunderland.

South Tyneside District Hospital’s League of Friends have hit the right note with their latest donation. They have provided three sets of digital music players with headphones for patients having operations under local or regional anaesthetic, who will be able to choose from playlists offering varied styles of music.

During Dementia Action Week, May 20th to 26th, South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust staff will be given an insight into what life on a hospital ward for a patient with dementia can be like.

A new clinic has been introduced in South Tyneside, principally to give young parents up to the age of 25 increased access to contraception, and reduce unintended pregnancies.
