A new artwork, specially created for South Tyneside to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, is now on display at South Tyneside District Hospital.

Changes to children’s emergency care and maternity services at South Tyneside District Hospital come into effect today and the public are asked to note that the children’s emergency department at the hospital will close tonight and every night from today between 10pm and 8am.

Staff at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust are celebrating as the Trusts’ new Midwifery-Led Birthing Centre officially opens today (Monday, August 5). The centre will offer mams-to-be even more choice on where to give birth and a safe alternative to giving birth in a consultant-led hospital setting or at home.
