What services do we provide?

We will often need to do an endoscopy to find out what is wrong. Most people we see will need to have a surgical procedure to sort out their problem.

How you live your life will play a vital part in your recovery . We will support you to make positive changes and break bad habits with food or alcohol.

We provide a range of different clinics and services to support with your ongoing care. Click on the services below to find out more.

We run lots of different outpatient clinics. This is where we will organise tests and scans and talk to you to help us understand what is wrong. We will also see you for follow up care and to monitor your condition if we think we need to. Our aim is to keep you living healthy and well at home.

Patients who need to stay in hospital will be on one of two specialist wards. This is Ward 3 in South Tyneside and Ward B26 in Sunderland. You may also stay in other parts of the hospital if you need surgery.

Our ACT helps people who come to hospital if they need support with alcohol. The ACT is available 7 days a week. They work to make sure patients who need help with alcohol get support before they go home. The ACT works closely with the Emergency Department and other hospital wards. They also link up with social services and teams in the community. This helps to direct people to the right help after they leave hospital.

Our LSNs work to support people with Cirrhosis and other serious liver problems. They see patients who are in hospital with known liver problems. They also link up with the Freeman Hospital to support patients if they are having a transplant. The LSNs link with cancer services, palliative care and GPs to join up care for patients.

Where will my treatment take place?

We run outpatient clinics from lots of Trust locations (click here). You can find the details of these locations below and how to get here. Your appointment letter will let you know which location to go to.
