Professor Chris Gray – Non-Executive Medical Advisor (non-voting)

Professor Gray joined the Board in 2021. Before that he was Senior Clinical Lead for the North East and Cumbria Integrated Care System.

He has had lots of senior clinical leadership roles. These include Medical Director for System Improvement and Professional Standards with NHS England and Improvement (North East and Yorkshire) and Executive Medical Director at County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. He has also had different academic roles and was an NHS consulting physician in Sunderland, Gateshead and Edinburgh.

He has had his work around stroke treatment and prevention published and has an international reputation for his research into diabetes, hyperglycaemia and stroke outcome.

Professor Gray also has lots of experience in medical education. He was an Undergraduate Clinical Sub Dean to Newcastle University, Director of Medical Education at City Hospitals Sunderland and Postgraduate Dean to the Northern Deanery.

His clinical interests are in the treatment of acute stroke and having graduated in Medicine and Law, he is interested in managing and keeping clinical and professional standards.
