Our Community Ready and Reablement Unit (CRRU) is led by nurses. The unit feels more like a home than a hospital. It has 14 beds and supports people who are well enough to leave hospital but still need a little more help before they can go home.

The CRU uses a Home First approach. This means we help you leave hospital as soon as you are well enough. You can then finish your recovery at home instead of staying in hospital longer than needed.

If you (or a loved one) are ready to leave hospital but need extra support in place before you go home, this is where you will stay.

The CRU is a warm and welcoming environment and has a ‘home from home’ feel. It's somewhere you can relax and continue to recover while you wait to go home.

Our team will help you become as independent as possible. They can support you with:

  • Taking medication
  • Moving around
  • Getting dressed
  • Other daily tasks

You will get the same type of care you would receive at home if your support was already in place. The team will plan and check your care. They can help with things like wound care and catheter care. If you feel unwell or need new medicine, they will speak to your doctor.

We must make sure there are enough beds available for people who need to be in hospital.

If you stay for longer than you need to, this puts pressure on the hospital. It also means patients who do need to be in hospital must wait longer for a bed.

Our nurses will work with you to plan and assess your care needs. There is 24-hour care, 7 days a week. Community GPs visit 3 days per week.

The team works with lots of different health care staff to support you. This includes healthcare assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and pharmacists.  Together, they help you to be more active, independent, and confident.

There are lots of activities to help make your life easier at home.

We encourage visits as we know it is good for you and your loved ones to see each other. You can have visitors at any time between 9am and 9pm, 7 days a week.

Our nurses and healthcare assistants will help you get ready to return home. They will also offer simple activities to keep you active, involved and confident during your stay.
