As people get older, they are more likely to fall. This risk is even higher for people who have a long‑term illness. A fall can cause serious injuries, like broken bones. It can also make people lose confidence and feel less independent.
We are here to help people who have had a fall or who may be at risk of falling. Our Community Falls Team is made up of doctors, nurses and physiotherapists. They are trained to support people who feel unsteady or who have already had a fall.
We carry out full checks to find out why someone might fall. These checks can include:
- Balance tests
- Tests for dizziness
- Simple strength checks
- Reviews of any medicines you take
These checks help us understand the cause of the problem so we can give the right support and advice.
What happens after your assessment?
Once we have seen you, we might:
- set up short rehab sessions to help you move better
- refer you to an occupational therapist
- give you a walking aid or adjust the one you use
- check your medicines to see if any cause dizziness or falls
- send you to a clinic for more tests if needed
We work with you to help you stay safe, feel confident, and stay independent.
